The name means 'round turn', after the curve the Paraíba do Sul makes as it passes through the valley. The city follows the river on both banks, with bridges tying the two sides together. Near its centre sits the vast rectangular footprint of the steelworks, surrounded by residential districts that climb the low, rounded hills typical of this part of the Paraíba valley.
Volta Redonda grew around the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional, whose plant was established in the 1940s as Brazil's first large integrated steel mill. The company planned housing for its workers, and neighbourhoods such as Vila Santa Cecília still show that orderly origin. Later growth spread less formally across the surrounding slopes, giving the outer city a looser, more improvised pattern.
A Volta Redonda map poster traces the river, the mill and the neighbourhoods built for its workers. Digital HD files are $9 for six print sizes, 30×40 cm to 24×36″, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF without a watermark. Printed posters on matte paper are shipped from print partners in more than 30 countries.
The river crosses the city in a pronounced curve, the bend that gave Volta Redonda its name, and divides it into two sides joined by bridges.
The CSN plant occupies a large area beside the river, its long sheds and rail lines forming a strong geometric mass in the middle of the map.
Planned districts built for mill employees show regular streets and repeated house plots, a contrast with the looser patterns that spread over the hills later.

Koteā ko Volta Redonda
Many families in Volta Redonda have at least one generation tied to the mill. A map poster of the city is a way to hold on to that history, or to mark a move, a new job or a childhood spent beside the river.
