Te mapa
Paraibuna sits in the hills of eastern São Paulo state, between the Paraíba Valley and the Serra do Mar. The historic town lies beside the Paraibuna River, where a small, compact centre follows the river and nearby roads, surrounded by rounded green hills.
Upstream, the Paraibuna reservoir spreads through the valleys in a pattern of long, branching arms, created by damming the river. The Rodovia dos Tamoios, which links the Paraíba Valley with the coast at Caraguatatuba, passes through the municipality, and for many people the town is a stop on the way to the sea.
A Paraibuna map poster frames the town at the point where river, roads and hills meet. The centre has a close, colonial-era street pattern, while the landscape around it is mostly open, so the fine detail of the streets stands out clearly against the curves of water and hills.
The historic centre follows the Paraibuna River, with a short grid of streets and squares set close to the water.
The reservoir fills a network of flooded valleys with long, narrow inlets, a shape that is striking in black and white.
The Tamoios highway crosses the hills towards the Serra do Mar, a single strong line through otherwise rural country.

Koteā ko Paraibuna
Paraibuna suits people with family in the Paraíba Valley, travellers who have stopped there on the way to the coast, and anyone drawn to small river towns. The combination of hills, river and reservoir gives the map a quiet, balanced composition.
