From above, Parchim looks like an old market town that grew up around a river crossing. The Elde bends through the western edge of the centre, and the old town sits inside that curve as a tight, irregular knot of streets. Beyond it, newer housing spreads out in looser rings, and fields and woodland of western Mecklenburg close in quickly on every side.
The street plan still follows the medieval town. Two parish quarters grew around the brick Gothic churches of St. Georgen and St. Marien, and the lanes between them run short and slightly crooked, meeting at small squares. On a map these form a dense, fine-grained pattern that stands out against the broad agricultural parcels and straight country roads around the town.
Parchim is known as the birthplace of Helmuth von Moltke the Elder, the Prussian field marshal, and the Elde has long linked the town to the waterways running between the Mecklenburg lakes and the Elbe. A Parchim map poster shows the river, the canal cuts and the old core together, giving a clear picture of how a small Hanseatic town fits against its water.
The river and its canalised sections run past the old town, adding smooth curves and locks to a street pattern that is otherwise small, dense and angular.
The medieval centre divides into quarters around two large brick Gothic churches, each with its own cluster of short lanes and a small open square.
Past the last housing blocks the map opens into woodland, meadows and farm tracks, so the town reads as a clear island in the Mecklenburg countryside.

Koteā ko Parchim
People who grew up in Parchim, or who came to know it by boat on the Elde, tend to like how this map holds the whole town in one frame. The river curve and the old churches are easy to find, and the quiet surroundings give the layout plenty of room.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or a year, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download it as an HD file for $9 or order it printed on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
