Te mapa
Pedro II sits in the north of Piauí in north-eastern Brazil, on higher ground than much of the surrounding sertão. The elevation gives it a milder climate than the lowlands nearby, and the town is known in the state for its cooler nights. From above it appears as a compact pattern of streets around a central square, spreading gradually along the roads that climb into the surrounding hills.
The town is best known for opals. The hills around Pedro II hold some of the most important precious opal deposits in Brazil, and mining and jewellery-making are part of local life. It also hosts a winter music festival that draws visitors from across Piauí, turning the cooler season into an attraction in a region better known for heat.
A Pedro II map poster shows a small highland town and the rugged ground around it. The centre forms a tidy cluster of blocks, roads curve with the contours of the terrain, and tracks lead out towards farms and mining areas in the hills. The composition is quiet and balanced, a clear picture of a town held within its landscape.
The town's centre gathers around its main square, a small, regular cluster of blocks that reads as the heart of the map.
Roads leaving the town bend and wind with the uneven terrain, a clear contrast to the straighter streets of the centre.
The surrounding high ground, where opal has been mined for decades, fills the margins with tracks and scattered settlements among open land.
