Te mapa
Petrolândia lies in the sertão of Pernambuco, on the São Francisco River, and its map is dominated by water. The Itaparica dam, later named for Luiz Gonzaga, created a vast reservoir in the late 1980s and flooded the original town. A new Petrolândia was built on higher ground, which is why its streets look more planned and regular than those of many older towns in the region.
The reservoir shapes the whole outline of the town. Long, irregular shorelines, inlets and small peninsulas surround the built-up area, and the edge of the water cuts across the map in soft curves. The remains of the old town's church, visible rising from the lake, have become a local symbol and a reminder of what lies beneath the surface.
A Petrolândia map poster pairs the tidy geometry of a relocated town with the wide, organic forms of the reservoir. In black and white the contrast is striking: a compact grid of streets on one side and a pale expanse of water on the other, with the dry sertão landscape stretching away beyond the shore.
Built to replace the flooded original, the current town has a relatively regular street layout, with straight roads and clear blocks that read neatly on the map.
The reservoir wraps around the town in long, uneven curves, with inlets and small headlands that make the waterline the most expressive feature of the poster.
The site of the original Petrolândia lies under the water, and the remains of its church, rising from the lake, are one of the best-known images of the town.

Koteā ko Petrolândia
Petrolândia has a story of loss and rebuilding that many families still carry, and a map of the new town beside the reservoir holds both chapters. It suits people who grew up here, those who moved away, and anyone drawn to the São Francisco.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or the year of the move, and keep the coordinates of the new town or change the line entirely. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
