Te mapa
Philipsburg has one of the most distinctive sites in the Caribbean: a thin strip of land separating the sweep of Great Bay from the Great Salt Pond behind it. It is the capital of Sint Maarten, the Dutch half of an island shared with French Saint-Martin. The town was founded in the eighteenth century and named after John Philips, a Scottish captain in Dutch service.
From above the town is almost entirely linear. Front Street follows the beach, Back Street runs parallel a block inland, and short alleys, known locally as steegjes, tie the two together like rungs of a ladder. The salt pond fills the landward half of the frame as a broad, calm shape, while the bay curves away toward the cruise pier and the headlands beyond.
A Philipsburg map poster makes the most of that squeeze between water and water. The ladder of streets sits at the centre, framed by two very different bodies of water, one open to the sea and one enclosed. The roads climbing into the hills behind the town add finer texture to the edges of the print.
The main shopping street runs along the shoreline of Great Bay, a single curving line that defines the town's seaward edge and its long public beach.
Narrow lanes connect Front Street to Back Street at regular intervals, creating a ladder-like pattern that is one of the clearest small-town street signatures in the region.
The large enclosed pond behind the town, once worked for salt, takes up much of the map as a wide, pale shape against the dense strip of streets.

Koteā ko Philipsburg
People hang Philipsburg for the memory of a day ashore, a season spent working on the island or a wedding on the bay. The composition is simple and immediately recognisable: a sliver of streets balanced between two waters, which reads well even at the smaller print sizes.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date you arrived, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand pairs naturally with a beach town. HD files cost $9, and printed posters on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, ship from partners in 30+ countries.
