Te mapa
Pico Truncado stands on the plateau of northern Santa Cruz Province, in the dry steppe of Patagonia. From above, the town is a neat rectangular grid dropped into a vast open landscape. A few roads and tracks run out toward oil fields, sheep ranches and the neighbouring towns of the Deseado region.
Its name means truncated peak and comes from a flat-topped hill nearby. The town grew with the oil and gas industry of the Golfo San Jorge basin. Later it became known for its strong, steady winds, which made it an early site for wind energy and experimental hydrogen production in Argentina.
A Pico Truncado map poster is a study in contrast. The dense, orderly grid sits at the centre, surrounded by generous white space broken only by the thin lines of roads and service tracks. The composition reflects the scale of Patagonia itself, where settlements are small, straight-edged and far apart.
The town follows a regular grid of blocks, clear and evenly spaced, forming a crisp geometric shape at the centre of the poster.
Open, treeless plateau surrounds the town on all sides, leaving wide empty areas on the map that make the urban grid stand out sharply.
Roads and tracks leading away from town connect with oil infrastructure and wind energy sites. This thin network of lines shows how the town earns its living.

Koteā ko Pico Truncado
Pico Truncado draws people from across Argentina to work in energy, and many stay attached to it long after they leave. A map of its stark grid on the steppe is an honest, memorable picture of that time.
