Te mapa
Pirapora lies on the São Francisco River in northern Minas Gerais, at the point where rapids once ended navigation upriver. The map is dominated by the broad river with its rocky channels and islands. The town's grid of streets runs down to the water on one bank, and the long Marechal Hermes railway bridge crosses to the other side.
For many years Pirapora was the starting point for river journeys down the São Francisco toward Bahia. The historic steam paddle boat Benjamim Guimarães, built in the early twentieth century, is still associated with the town. The riverfront remains the focus of local life.
A Pirapora map poster places the town's orderly blocks beside the untidy, braided form of the river at the rapids. In black and white, the bridge draws a single straight line across the water, linking the two halves of the composition. The print has strong structure, with the river's energy running through it.

The long Marechal Hermes bridge crosses the São Francisco, a clean straight line joining the two banks on the map.
The town's streets form a regular grid running down to the water, a clear contrast to the irregular river beside it.
