Te mapa
Pires do Rio is in the south-east of Goiás, in central Brazil, on the high plains of the cerrado. The town grew up in the early twentieth century with the railway that pushed into Goiás, and it takes its name from José Pires do Rio, a public figure associated with that period of national infrastructure. The railway line is still visible as a clear diagonal on the map.
The centre is laid out in a mostly regular grid, with wide streets and squares typical of Brazilian towns planned in that era. Beyond the town edge, the map opens into farmland and pasture on gently rolling cerrado, crossed by regional roads and small watercourses lined with strips of gallery forest.
A Pires do Rio map poster shows how a planned grid, a railway and a wide landscape come together. Printed in monochrome, the town's ordered blocks stand out against the open surroundings, and the rail line cuts a long, clean line through the composition.

Wide streets and squares form an orderly grid in the centre, typical of Brazilian interior towns planned in the twentieth century.
Farmland, pasture and small stream corridors spread across the rolling high plains around the town.
