Te mapa
Pitangui is one of the earliest towns founded in Minas Gerais during the gold-rush period of the early eighteenth century. The map still reflects that origin: a historic centre of irregular streets that climb and curve over hilly ground, laid out long before planners introduced straight grids to the Brazilian interior.
Colonial towns in Minas typically grew along ridges and valleys, linking churches, squares and water sources, and Pitangui follows that pattern. Around the older core, newer districts spread out in a more regular layout, and the Pará river runs through the surrounding countryside, adding a winding line of water to the edge of the town's plan.
A Pitangui map poster brings together the dense, organic heart of the colonial town and the calmer expansion around it. In black and white, the difference between the two periods is clearly visible, and the curving streets give the print a hand-drawn quality typical of the old mining towns.
The historic core has winding, uneven streets that follow the slopes. The layout clearly reveals the town's early eighteenth-century origins.
Roads climb and descend over the hilly terrain, bending around slopes. The street network looks more fluid than a flat-country town would.
The river passes through the countryside near the town, and its meandering course is a soft counterpoint to the angular streets.
