Plaisir is a commune in the Yvelines department, west of Versailles, in the outer part of the Paris region. Its map shows several distinct layers: an older village centre, residential neighbourhoods built largely in the second half of the twentieth century, and large commercial zones set along the main roads that cross the commune.
The town grew considerably in the period when new towns were developed around Paris, and since 2016 it has belonged to the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines agglomeration. Two railway stations, Plaisir–Grignon and Plaisir–Les Clayes, connect it with Paris, and woods and farmland surround much of the commune, giving the built-up area a clear edge.
