Te mapa
Portugalete stands on the left bank of the Nervión estuary, where the river from Bilbao opens toward the Bay of Biscay. The town climbs from the waterfront up a hillside, and its oldest streets run in tight parallel lines down the slope toward the water. From above, that medieval core contrasts clearly with the larger, later blocks that spread inland.
The town's best-known structure is the Vizcaya Bridge, the transporter bridge that links Portugalete with Getxo across the estuary. Opened in 1893, it was the first of its kind and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A gondola suspended from the high span carries people and cars across, so ships can still pass freely underneath.
A Portugalete map poster brings together river, slope and bridge in a single frame. The estuary cuts a broad, pale channel across the composition, the old town adds dense detail on the hillside, and the bridge's thin line between the two banks becomes a focal point that anyone who has crossed on the gondola will recognise at once.

Narrow medieval streets descend the hillside toward the waterfront, forming a compact, closely packed pattern that stands out against the newer districts around it.
A promenade follows the left bank of the Nervión toward the sea, tracing the edge where the town meets the widening mouth of the estuary.
