Przasnysz lies in northern Mazovia, in a wide agricultural landscape north of Warsaw. From above, the town reads as a compact centre with a market square at its heart. Roads fan out from it toward neighbouring towns, and the Węgierka river passes nearby, adding a winding line that softens the otherwise straight pattern of roads and field boundaries.
The historic core keeps the proportions of a Polish market town: a square surrounded by short streets and narrow plots, with a former Bernardine monastery among its older buildings. Newer housing estates and industrial areas spread out beyond the centre in larger, simpler shapes. A Przasnysz map poster shows this gradual transition from dense core to open countryside.
The town's name appears in the history of the First World War. In 1915 the area around Przasnysz saw heavy fighting between German and Russian forces, and these battles are recorded under the town's name.
