Te mapa
Puqiakeqi lies in southern Xinjiang, in the belt of oases along the edge of the Tarim Basin near Hotan. From above, the settlement sits in a green, geometric landscape: fields divided by irrigation channels, straight tree-lined roads, and clusters of houses gathered along them. Beyond the cultivated area the pattern stops abruptly where the desert begins.
Life here depends on water carried down from the Kunlun Mountains to the south, and the map reflects that. Canals and ditches run in long parallel lines, dividing the farmland into narrow strips and plots, and the road network follows much the same logic. The result is an unusually orderly pattern for a rural area, drawn by irrigation rather than terrain.
To the north lies the Taklamakan Desert, one of the largest sand deserts in the world, and it gives the oasis its sharp outer boundary. A Puqiakeqi map poster shows the contrast between a carefully cultivated grid and the open ground around it. It is a quiet portrait of a place shaped by patience and water.
Canals and ditches divide the land into long rectangular plots. They form a regular pattern of lines that dominates the map around the settlement.
Straight roads, usually lined with poplars in this region, run between the fields and connect scattered clusters of houses across the oasis.
The cultivated area ends where the Taklamakan begins, so a wider view shows a clear boundary between the dense web of fields and empty ground.
