Te mapa
Rāichūr lies in north-eastern Karnataka on the land between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. Historians call this tract the Raichur Doab. The town spreads around a granite hill scattered with boulders, typical of the Deccan plateau. From above, the dense old streets cluster at the foot of that hill, and newer layouts extend along the roads leading out of town.
For centuries the doab was fought over by the Vijayanagara Empire and the Bahmani and later Deccan sultanates, because the land between the two rivers was fertile and strategic. Rāichūr Fort, with its walls and gateways climbing the hill, survives from that era. Today the town is also known for a large thermal power station nearby.
A Rāichūr map poster shows a town organised around high ground. Streets bend around the base of the fort hill, remnants of the old fortifications show in the pattern of the centre, and the railway and highways cut straighter lines across the open, rocky plain beyond.
The rocky hill crowned by Rāichūr Fort is the town's natural centrepiece. On the map, streets curve around its base and leave the steep, boulder-covered ground largely unbuilt.
Around the fort, the older quarters form a close mesh of narrow lanes. They are noticeably denser than the planned residential layouts added in more recent decades.
The main railway between Mumbai and Chennai passes through Rāichūr. It crosses the frame as a long straight line that divides the town and sets a firm geometric edge.

This is a map for people from the doab country, or those who remember the fort hill against the evening sky. The concentrated centre and open plain around it give the design plenty of breathing room.
