Te mapa
Rhodes town occupies the northern tip of the island of Rhodes, where the land narrows to a point between the Aegean and the channel toward the Turkish coast. The sea surrounds the town on three sides, and from above the shoreline, the harbours and the fortified old town give it one of the most distinctive plans in the Mediterranean.
The medieval city was fortified by the Knights Hospitaller, who held Rhodes from the early fourteenth century until 1522. Their walls, gates and the Street of the Knights survive in remarkable condition, and the old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Mandraki harbour is traditionally associated with the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
A Rhodes map poster shows the old town as a dense, irregular knot of lanes inside its thick walls, flanked by harbours and moles reaching into the sea. Around it, the newer town spreads in more regular blocks toward the northern cape, with beaches lining the coast and the open water framing everything.
The fortifications of the Knights Hospitaller enclose a maze of medieval lanes, forming a dense, irregular shape that stands out clearly from the newer streets around it.
Several harbours with long moles and breakwaters line the eastern shore, including Mandraki, traditionally linked to the Colossus. They give the coastline sharp, angular forms.
The town tapers to a point at the island's northern tip, where two coasts meet. The surrounding sea leaves generous empty space and a strong, clear outline.

Koteā ko Rhodes
Rhodes is a place of summer holidays, honeymoons and family origins for many people. A map of the town recalls walks through the old walls and evenings by the harbour, and its outline is recognisable even without a label.
Add a personal title, a date in the subtitle and the coordinates line, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper suits the medieval streets, while Noir makes the surrounding sea especially striking.
