Robīt is a town in the Amhara region of northern Ethiopia, in the country between the high plateau and the lowlands to the east. Its shape on a map comes mostly from the road. The town lines a main route, and short side streets branch off it into residential areas before giving way to open land.
In this part of Ethiopia, towns along the main roads act as markets and stopping points for the surrounding farms, and travel and trade shape their layout. The land around them is farmed, and the terrain changes steadily as the highlands fall away, with hills and valleys never far from view.
