Roodepoort Map Poster & Print
Roodepoort lies on the West Rand, west of central Johannesburg, and grew up after gold was discovered along the Witwatersrand in the 1880s. On a map it forms a large, sprawling area of suburbs, commercial centres and old mine lands, with highways and main roads crossing a gently rolling landscape.
Traces of mining remain in the form of open spaces, dumps and reservoirs scattered between residential districts. Low ridges run across the area, and roads follow their contours, creating a mix of straight arterials and curving local streets. Today Roodepoort is part of the City of Johannesburg metropolitan area.
