Te mapa
Rueil-Malmaison lies in the Hauts-de-Seine department west of Paris, beside a long meander of the Seine, across the river from Chatou and Croissy. On the map the river forms a broad edge along one side of the town. From there the streets climb gradually through residential districts toward wooded heights, with an older historic centre at the heart of it all.
The town is best known for the Château de Malmaison, bought by Joséphine de Beauharnais in 1799, where she and Napoleon lived during the Consulate. The château and its grounds are now a museum, and the nearby Bois-Préau park and the forest of La Malmaison add large green areas to the map. Impressionist painters worked along this stretch of the Seine in the nineteenth century.
A Rueil-Malmaison map poster balances the river's sweep with the tidy geometry of suburban streets and the soft shapes of parks and woodland. It suits long-time residents, families who moved out of Paris for more space, and anyone who admires the landscapes the Impressionists painted on this bend of the Seine.
The river curves along the town in a wide, graceful arc, forming a strong edge on the poster and separating Rueil from the towns on the opposite bank.
The château grounds and Bois-Préau make a calm green space among the streets, a quiet reminder of the house Joséphine made famous.
On the higher ground, the forest of La Malmaison shows as open, unlined space, with residential roads curving along its edges.
