Te mapa
Sa Dec lies close to the Tien River, a main branch of the Mekong, in Dong Thap province. Its map is organised by water. A river channel runs through the centre, smaller canals feed off it in every direction, and many streets run parallel to the banks rather than to any grid. Bridges knit the quarters together at short intervals, giving the plan a stitched appearance.
The town was an important trading post in the nineteenth century, and its riverfront still carries colonial-era shophouses. One house, that of the Huynh Thuy Le family, is known worldwide as the home of the man at the centre of Marguerite Duras's novel The Lover. Duras herself spent part of her childhood here, where her mother ran a school.
Just outside the centre, the Tan Quy Dong flower village supplies plants and cut flowers across the south, especially before Tet, and its fields appear on the map as fine, regular plots between canals. A Sa Dec map poster gathers river, streets and gardens into one calm image of delta life.
Waterways branch from the river through town and countryside, giving the map its defining pattern of thin, curving lines and frequent small bridges.
Older streets run along the banks, lined with shophouses, so the historic core follows the shape of the water rather than a planned grid.
Narrow garden beds and nurseries outside the centre form a fine striped texture, one of the most recognisable agricultural patterns in the delta.

Koteā ko Sa Dec
Readers of Duras, travellers who crossed the delta by boat and families with roots in Dong Thap all find something personal in this map. It shows a town best understood from the water, and it holds that view on the wall.
Put a name, a trip date or a line from a favourite book in the subtitle, and choose one of five styles. Blueprint makes the canals stand out clearly, while Paper and Sand give the delta a gentler, warmer feel.
