Te mapa
Sakhipur is an upazila town in Tangail District, in the central part of Bangladesh north of Dhaka. The land is low and nearly flat, part of the great delta plain, and from above the town looks like a cluster of narrow roads and lanes around a bazaar, spreading into villages linked by raised paths through paddy fields. Ponds are everywhere, shown as small shapes scattered across the map.
The area around Sakhipur includes remnants of the sal forest belt of central Bangladesh, which gives parts of the landscape more tree cover than the surrounding plain. Agriculture dominates daily life, with rice fields covering much of the land and villages set on slightly higher ground. A Sakhipur map poster captures this closely woven pattern of water, fields and settlements.
The town's streets are irregular rather than planned, following the older routes between villages and markets. Canals and seasonal waterways cross the area and fill with water during the monsoon. On the poster, this becomes a soft, organic network with the market area at its centre and fine lines extending in every direction.
The town's market area forms the densest knot of lanes, where most roads meet before heading back into the villages.
Countless small ponds dot the surrounding land, adding rounded shapes to the poster between the roads and fields.
Rice fields and patches of sal woodland surround the town, leaving calm, open spaces around the network of paths.
