Te mapa
Salcajá lies in the department of Quetzaltenango in the western highlands of Guatemala, close to the city of Quetzaltenango itself. From above, the town is a compact grid of blocks around a central square, surrounded by small fields and the hills and volcanic slopes that shape the region.
The town is widely known for its textile tradition, particularly the tie-dyed jaspe cloth woven on foot looms, and for the small colonial church of San Jacinto, often cited as one of the oldest churches in Central America. These traditions give Salcajá a reputation well beyond its size.
A Salcajá map poster shows a highland town with a clear colonial-era layout: straight streets, a defined centre and roads leading towards neighbouring towns in the valley. Around it, the pattern of small plots and winding rural roads fills the frame with detail.
The town centre follows a regular grid around a central square, a layout typical of Guatemalan towns and very clear when printed in black and white.
Salcajá sits in a valley of the western highlands, and the map shows roads and fields fitting between hills that rise towards the surrounding volcanoes.
Roads connect the town to nearby Quetzaltenango and other valley communities, tying Salcajá into a closely linked network of highland settlements.
