Te mapa
Villa Nueva lies just south of Guatemala City, and today forms part of the same metropolitan area. The map shows a large, mostly residential landscape, with neighbourhoods spreading across the valley floor and onto the surrounding slopes. Major roads link it to the capital in the north, and much daily traffic flows along these routes.
The terrain is marked by ravines, or barrancos, which cut through the land and interrupt the street network. On a map they appear as winding gaps between built-up areas, often following streams. This gives Villa Nueva an irregular, organic shape, very different from the planned grids found in some other parts of the metro area.
To the south, the land descends toward Lake Amatitlán, and volcanic highlands form the wider backdrop. The municipality has grown quickly in recent decades as families moved out from the capital. A Villa Nueva map poster shows how neighbourhoods, roads and ravines fit together in one of the country's most populous municipalities.
Deep barrancos run through the municipality, splitting neighbourhoods apart and drawing winding green lines across the map.
Main routes run north toward Guatemala City, forming the spine along which much of the municipality has grown.
The land slopes south toward the lake, which can appear at the edge of a wider framing of the poster.
