Te mapa
Jutiapa is the capital of the department of the same name, in the south-east of Guatemala between Guatemala City and the border with El Salvador. The town follows the familiar Spanish colonial model of a central square surrounded by a grid of streets. Because the ground here is uneven, the blocks stretch, narrow and bend where the terrain rises or dips.
The surrounding landscape is hilly and volcanic, with farmland and pasture filling the valleys between the ridges. Main roads leave the centre toward neighbouring towns, and the Pan-American Highway runs through the department on its way to the border. Jutiapa serves as the commercial and administrative centre for a largely rural region, and its busiest streets gather around the square and the market.
A Jutiapa map poster captures a town where planning and terrain meet. You can see the intent of a regular grid and, at the edges, the way hills and ravines have forced it to adapt. Roads curve away into open country, leaving plenty of white space around the dense centre.
The town's plaza sits at the heart of the grid, and the most regular blocks radiate from it. It is the natural reference point on the poster and the place most people will look for first.
Away from the centre, blocks lose their even shape as the streets follow the rolling ground. The result is a pattern that is ordered but visibly shaped by the land.
A few main routes leave town and wind into the surrounding countryside. They frame the urban core with long, curving lines against a wide field of empty space.
