Te mapa
Guatemala City sits on a high plateau in a valley of the central highlands, at an altitude of about 1,500 metres. On the map, the city is shaped by barrancos, deep, steep-sided ravines that cut through the urban area. These green, branching gullies divide neighbourhoods and force roads to curve around them.
The capital was founded in 1776 after earthquakes damaged the previous capital, now known as Antigua Guatemala. The historic centre, Zona 1, is a regular colonial grid around the central plaza. The rest of the city is organised into numbered zones that spiral outward, a system that makes addresses unusually logical.
A Guatemala City map poster shows this combination of grid and ravine, with La Aurora airport forming a long, clean shape in the south of the city. Beyond the urban edge, volcanoes such as Pacaya and Agua rise in the distance, a constant presence on the skyline.
Deep ravines branch through the city, forming irregular green shapes that separate districts and shape the road network across the plateau.
The historic centre is laid out in a regular colonial grid around the central plaza, the oldest and most orderly part of the city.
The airport's runway sits within the city itself, a long straight line in the southern zones, surrounded by residential neighbourhoods.

Koteā ko Guatemala City
For Guatemalans at home and abroad, the capital is a centre of family life, work and memory. A map of its zones and ravines is a calm, meaningful piece for a living room or study, far from the city or close to it.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a date or a zone number, and edit the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as $9 HD files or a printed poster.
