Samar is a city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, until 2024 known as Novomoskovsk. It stands on the Samara River, a tributary of the Dnipro that meanders heavily through low, wooded ground. On a map the river's loops and oxbows are the dominant feature, winding around and through the city's districts.
The urban fabric combines older low-rise neighbourhoods of houses and gardens with blocks of Soviet-era apartments and industrial zones. To the east lies the Samara Forest, a large area of woodland along the river valley that appears as a broad empty field on the map.
