Te mapa
Santo Domingo was founded by the Spanish in the 1490s and is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas. Its first streets were laid out on the west bank of the Ozama River where it meets the Caribbean, and that original core, the Ciudad Colonial, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On a map it is a compact, orderly patch of blocks at the river's edge.
Calle El Conde crosses the colonial district as a pedestrian spine, passing close to the Catedral Primada de América, the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Beyond the old walls the city expands in wide avenues toward the west and north, and the Malecón, the waterfront boulevard, follows the coast for several kilometres with the open sea directly to the south.
Across the Ozama, Santo Domingo Este and the limestone caves of Los Tres Ojos extend the map on the eastern bank, and the Isabela River joins the Ozama from the north. A Santo Domingo map poster shows a city defined by one long coastline and one winding river, with five centuries of growth radiating from the corner where they meet.

Avenida George Washington runs along the Caribbean shore west of the old city, drawing a clean, nearly straight edge between dense streets and open water.
Two rivers meet north of the historic centre and wind toward the sea, splitting the metropolitan area into distinct banks linked by a handful of bridges.

Koteā ko Santo Domingo
For Dominicans abroad, returning visitors and anyone who has walked the colonial streets, this map holds a sense of origin. The geometry is simple enough to read across a room yet detailed enough to find a familiar block up close.
