Looping streets
The residential districts are laid out in curving loops and closed streets. On the poster they create a pattern that looks almost hand-drawn, quite unlike an old town grid.

Te mapa
Savigny-le-Temple lies in Seine-et-Marne, south-east of Paris, and forms part of Sénart, one of the new towns planned for the Île-de-France region in the later twentieth century. Most of its map dates from that period. Its streets are curving and deliberately arranged rather than inherited from an older village.
From above, neighbourhoods appear as clusters of loops and cul-de-sacs, separated by green corridors, ponds and wooded strips that link parks across the town. Main roads bypass the residential areas rather than crossing them, and the RER D railway line cuts a clear path through the plan, with its station at the heart of the newer centre.
The name recalls the Knights Templar, who held a commandery here in the Middle Ages, and a small historic core survives within the modern layout. A Savigny-le-Temple map poster shows an unusual kind of French town: planned, green and organised around curves, with a medieval name at its centre.
The residential districts are laid out in curving loops and closed streets. On the poster they create a pattern that looks almost hand-drawn, quite unlike an old town grid.
Parks, ponds and wooded strips run between the neighbourhoods. They divide the map into distinct districts and give it a lot of calm space.
The suburban rail line crosses the town in a steady line, with the station at the centre. It is the town's main link to Paris.

Koteā ko Savigny-le-Temple
For families who moved to Sénart, commuters on the RER D and children who grew up in its parks, this map records a very particular kind of home. It also reads well as abstract design.
