Te mapa
Schenectady lies in upstate New York on the south bank of the Mohawk River, a short distance northwest of Albany. On a map, the river and the route of the Erie Canal corridor define its northern edge, while the city spreads southward in a network of neighbourhoods, rail lines and industrial land.
The Stockade district, near the river, is the oldest part of the city, with streets dating back to the Dutch settlement of the seventeenth century. Schenectady later became closely linked to General Electric, whose large works shaped the city's growth and gave it the nickname the city that lights and hauls the world.
A Schenectady map poster also captures Union College, whose campus plan by Joseph-Jacques Ramée is often cited as one of the first comprehensive campus designs in the United States, centred on the round Nott Memorial. Together, the stockade, the industrial works and the college create a map with layers of history visible in its lines.
The historic district near the Mohawk keeps a compact, irregular street pattern from the colonial era, a distinctive knot of lanes at the city's northern edge.
The college grounds form a large green space with a symmetrical plan centred on the circular Nott Memorial, one of the clearest shapes on the map.
The river runs along the city's northern boundary, a broad curving line that frames the older districts and links Schenectady to the wider Hudson valley.

Koteā ko Schenectady
Schenectady means different things to different people: a college town, an industrial city, a colonial landmark. A map of its streets is a thoughtful gift for alumni, former GE families or anyone who once called it home.
You can add a title, subtitle and coordinates, such as a graduation year or the address of a first home. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, available as HD files or printed posters.
