Schwabach lies just south of Nuremberg in Middle Franconia, where the small Schwabach river joins the Rednitz. The old town grew close to the rivers, and the map shows a compact historic core around a long market square, surrounded by later residential districts and green corridors along the water.
Schwabach is known as a gold-beating town. For centuries, craftsmen here hammered gold into extremely thin leaf, and the trade still shapes the town's identity. It also has a place in Reformation history: the Schwabach Articles of 1529, an early Lutheran statement of faith, take their name from the town.
