Te mapa
This Sendai lies in Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Kyushu. Its official name is Satsumasendai, which distinguishes it from the much larger Sendai in northern Japan. It sits on the Sendai River, a few kilometres inland from the East China Sea coast, and is the main city of the northern Satsuma region.
The river dominates the map, curving through the city with neighbourhoods on both banks and several bridges tying them together. The centre forms a compact grid around the station, which is served by the Kyushu Shinkansen. Hills rise around the edges, and farmland fills the flatter valley floor.
The city also includes the Koshikijima Islands offshore, but a Sendai map poster usually focuses on the mainland city and its river. The result is a calm composition built around one strong line of water, with streets clustered tightly near the centre and spreading out as they reach the hills.
The broad river winds through the city toward the sea. It forms the backbone of the map and divides the urban area into two banks.
Around the Shinkansen station, the streets are denser and more regular, the clearest example of planned layout in the city.
Wooded slopes frame the city on several sides, pressing close to the built-up area and giving the poster a contained, sheltered shape.

Koteā ko Sendai
This poster suits people from Satsumasendai and the Satsuma region, and anyone who knows this quieter Sendai in the south. The curve of the river and the tight centre make a map that reads clearly even at small sizes.
Adjust the title and subtitle, perhaps writing out Satsumasendai in full, and edit the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as $9 digital files or a printed poster shipped from a partner.
