Stanitsa grid

Severskaya Map Poster & Print
Severskaya is a stanitsa, a traditional Cossack settlement, in Krasnodar Krai in southern Russia, south-west of Krasnodar. It lies where the flat Kuban plain begins to meet the northern foothills of the Caucasus, and from above the settlement is laid out in long, regular streets with deep residential plots.
This pattern is typical of the stanitsas of the region. Streets run parallel for long distances, crossed by others at right angles, and each block contains houses with large gardens behind them. On a map, this creates a very clear grid with a strong rhythm of repeated lines.
A Severskaya map poster shows that orderly layout and the landscape around it: fields to the north, wooded hills beginning to the south, and small rivers crossing the area. The result is a disciplined, graphic print that still feels rooted in a specific rural place.

Foothill edge
To the south, the land begins to rise toward the Caucasus foothills, and the straight streets give way to more winding roads and wooded slopes.
Rivers and fields
Small rivers cross the area, and large fields surround the settlement, adding curved lines and open space around the regular grid.
