Te mapa
Shegaon is a town in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, in the Vidarbha region. From above, it is compact, built on flat agricultural land, with the railway line running along one side of the town and the older streets clustered near the centre. Roads lead out across the plain to surrounding villages and fields.
The town is best known as the home of the samadhi of Sant Gajanan Maharaj, a saint revered across Maharashtra, and it draws large numbers of pilgrims throughout the year. The temple trust also maintains the Anand Sagar complex, a large landscaped garden and water feature on the edge of town that appears clearly on the map.
A Shegaon map poster shows how a place of devotion shapes a small town's layout. Streets converge toward the temple area, the railway station links the town to the rest of India, and the open plain surrounds it all. For devotees and families from the area, the map holds a particular meaning.
The area around the samadhi of Sant Gajanan Maharaj forms the heart of the town, with streets drawing inward toward the complex that pilgrims come to visit.
This large landscaped complex on the town's edge, maintained by the temple trust, stands out on the map as a distinct area of water and open grounds.
Shegaon's station sits on a major rail route across central India, and the line forms a long, straight edge along the town's built-up area.
