Te mapa
Shella lies in Meghalaya in northeast India, on the southern escarpment of the Khasi Hills, directly above the border with Bangladesh. From above, the landscape changes dramatically over a short distance: steep, folded hillsides and gorges to the north, and a wide, flat floodplain to the south.
This part of Meghalaya is among the wettest places on Earth, close to the famously rainy Sohra area. The heavy monsoon feeds streams and waterfalls that cut down through the escarpment, and the slopes are known for orchards and groves. Shella was historically the seat of one of the Khasi states, or hima.
A Shella map poster captures the meeting of hill and plain. On the northern side, roads and paths twist to follow the terrain, and villages sit on ridges and slopes. To the south, the map opens into level land crossed by rivers heading towards Bangladesh. It is an unusual, dramatic composition.
The land drops steeply from the plateau to the plains along the southern edge of Meghalaya. On the map this shows as a sudden change from twisting lines to open flat ground.
Roads and footpaths follow ridges and valleys in tight bends and switchbacks. They give the northern half of the poster a flowing, organic character.
Streams fed by monsoon rain run down gorges and out onto the Bangladeshi floodplain. Their winding courses add soft lines that link hills and lowlands on the map.

Koteā ko Shella
Shella draws travellers interested in the wettest hills in India, the Khasi villages and the border landscapes. A map poster is a thoughtful memento of a place where the terrain itself tells the story.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with the date of a trip or a family name. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
