Te mapa
Shonē is a town in the Central Ethiopia Regional State, in the southern part of the Ethiopian highlands. It serves as a local centre for the surrounding rural area, where much of the population lives on small farms. On a map the town reads as a modest cluster of streets with a main road running through it and fields on every side.
The street pattern is informal and irregular in places, with a denser core near the main road and looser lanes branching outward. Paths and tracks lead away into cultivated countryside, where homesteads are spread across the land rather than gathered into tight villages. This gives the edges of the map a soft, dotted quality instead of a hard boundary.
A Shonē map poster is a quiet record of a place that rarely appears on printed maps at all. It keeps things simple: the road that brings people to town, the grid of streets around the centre, and the transition into open highland farmland that surrounds it in every direction.
A through road organises the town, with the busiest and most closely built streets gathered along its length before the pattern loosens.
Near the centre the streets form an uneven grid, shaped by growth over time rather than a single plan, which gives the map character.
Around the town, tracks and footpaths fan out into cultivated highland, so the built area fades gradually into the rural landscape.

Koteā ko Shonē
For people from Shonē living elsewhere in Ethiopia or abroad, a map of the town is a direct and personal link to home. It is also an unusual piece for anyone who has worked or travelled in the region.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so you can write the name in your own spelling or add a family date. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
