Te mapa
Shymbulak lies in the Trans-Ili Alatau, one of the northern ranges of the Tian Shan, in the upper valley of the Malaya Almatinka south of Almaty. On a map it is reached by a single road and a long gondola line climbing the gorge from the Medeu skating rink. Both end at a small resort base surrounded by steep, bare slopes and glaciated peaks.
Skiing has taken place here since the mid-twentieth century. The resort was largely rebuilt ahead of the 2011 Asian Winter Games, which Almaty co-hosted, and its upper lifts reach toward the Talgar Pass at over 3,000 metres. Being this close to a city of around two million people is unusual: residents can go from downtown streets to high alpine terrain in well under an hour.
A Shymbulak map poster can be framed tightly around the resort, or wider to include Medeu, the Medeu dam and the southern edge of Almaty's street grid. The wider option tells a striking story. Orderly city blocks give way to a winding gorge road and then to open mountain, showing how close the high peaks really are.
The cable car climbs from beside the Medeu ice rink up the gorge to the resort base. Its straight line cuts across the curves of the mountain road below.
The uppermost lifts rise toward the Talgar Pass above 3,000 metres. Beyond them the map empties into high, unmarked terrain beneath the peaks of the Trans-Ili Alatau.
The river valley running north from the mountains toward Almaty carries road and stream side by side, a narrow corridor linking the resort and the city.

Koteā ko Shymbulak
Almaty residents often think of Shymbulak as their home mountain, and visitors remember it as the place where the city suddenly ends. Title the poster with the resort name, the city or both, and use the subtitle for a date, a name or a short phrase.
There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download the $9 HD files in six print sizes, after checking the free watermarked preview if you like, or order a printed matte poster from partners in over 30 countries.
