Te mapa
Sobradinho is an administrative region of Brazil's Federal District, northeast of Brasília's Pilot Plan. It was established around 1960, the year the capital was inaugurated, as one of the first satellite cities built to house workers and residents. Its plan clearly reflects that origin, with rows of residential blocks organised in numbered quadras and wide roads separating them.
From above, the city spreads along the BR-020 highway through the undulating landscape of the cerrado, the tropical savanna of central Brazil. Green strips, gullies and patches of native vegetation surround the urban area, and newer neighbourhoods have grown on the surrounding high ground over time.
A Sobradinho map poster captures the modernist logic of the Federal District on a smaller scale. Repeated blocks form a rhythmic pattern, the highway provides a strong line along the city, and the open cerrado frames the scene. It is an honest portrait of a planned city that has become a familiar home for many families.
Residential blocks are arranged in repeating sectors that give the map a regular, modular pattern typical of Brasília's satellite cities.
The highway runs along the city and connects it to central Brasília, the strongest line in the composition.
Valleys, streams and native savanna vegetation around the city create softer, irregular edges around the planned urban area.
