Te mapa
Sonārgaon lies southeast of Dhaka near the Meghna River, in a low landscape of rivers, canals and ponds. For several centuries it served as a capital and trading centre of medieval Bengal, and it was long associated with the fine muslin cloth the region produced. Today its settlements are spread across a patchwork of water and farmland.
Its best-known site is Panam Nagar, a single street lined with the crumbling brick mansions of nineteenth-century merchants. Nearby, the Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation keeps a museum in a historic house set among gardens and ponds, and it draws day visitors from the capital.
A Sonārgaon map poster shows a place defined as much by water as by roads. Winding channels, rectangular ponds and scattered villages make an intricate, organic pattern that reads very differently from the dense grid of nearby Dhaka.
A short, straight street of old merchant houses stands out as a single clean line among surrounding ponds and paths, the historic core of the area.
Dozens of ponds and winding waterways cover the map, their geometric and curving shapes giving the poster a delicate, almost textile-like pattern.
The broad Meghna River passes to the east, and its wide channels shape how settlements and roads are arranged across this low-lying delta land.

Koteā ko Sonārgaon
Sonārgaon appeals to anyone interested in Bengal's past or with family ties to the Narayanganj area. The watery pattern of the map looks rich on a wall without needing a single landmark label.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the date of a visit. Blueprint makes the channels and ponds especially clear, while Paper, Sand, Noir and Classic black & white offer quieter options.
