Te mapa
Steubenville stands on the west bank of the Ohio River, facing West Virginia across the water. It grew from Fort Steuben, an eighteenth-century frontier post, and later became a steel town. On the map, the downtown grid runs along a narrow strip of flat land by the river, then climbs sharply up the bluffs behind it.
Bridges are among the clearest features. Road crossings connect the city to Weirton and the West Virginia side, and their straight lines cut across the curving river. Up on the hills, streets become more irregular, following ridges and ravines, with Franciscan University of Steubenville occupying a campus on the higher ground.
A Steubenville map poster shows the tension between river and hill that defines the Upper Ohio Valley. The city is also known as the birthplace of Dean Martin and for the murals painted across its downtown walls, details that give the place a character beyond its industrial past.

The historic centre sits on a narrow shelf of level land by the river, a tight grid squeezed between the water and the bluffs.
Above downtown, streets wind across steep ridges and ravines, a looser, organic pattern that includes the Franciscan University campus on the heights.
