Strumica is the main town of southeastern North Macedonia, set in the broad Strumica valley near the borders with Greece and Bulgaria. The valley is one of the country's most productive farming areas and is known for its vegetables, and the town serves as its market and administrative centre. Strumica is also known for its long-running winter carnival, which draws visitors from across the region.
On the map, the town spreads across flat ground at the foot of hills to the south. The ruins of the medieval Tsarevi Kuli fortress stand on high ground above the streets. The older centre has irregular, narrow streets, while newer districts extend in more regular blocks toward the fields. Beyond them, the valley floor forms a patchwork of plots and field roads.

The flat Strumica valley surrounds the town with a dense patchwork of fields and farm tracks. This creates fine geometric detail around the urban area.
