Te mapa
Swadlincote is the main town of South Derbyshire, set in rolling country close to the borders of Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Its growth came from clay and coal. Local potteries produced pipes, sanitary ware and stoneware, and the area was dotted with pits and kilns. From above, the town is a patchwork of Victorian terraces, later estates and small former industrial sites.
Today Swadlincote lies at the heart of the National Forest, a long-term project that has planted millions of trees across former mining land. Around the town, new woodland and country parks now fill spaces once used by industry. Sharpe's Pottery Museum preserves the town's clay heritage, and a well-known artificial ski slope sits on the hillside nearby.
A Swadlincote map poster shows a town rebuilt from its industrial past. Dense, compact streets sit at the centre, surrounded by an irregular edge of villages, estates and green patches. The pattern tells the story of a landscape reshaped twice, first by clay and coal and then by the planting of a forest.

Sharpe's Pottery Museum marks the town's long history of making pipes and stoneware, an industry that shaped its streets.
