Te mapa
Tabou lies on the Atlantic coast in the far southwest of Côte d’Ivoire, not far from the Cavally River, which marks the border with Liberia. On a map the town is framed by the straight line of the ocean shore, with streets spreading inland from the beach. Beyond the built-up area, forest and plantations stretch away towards the interior in a broad, even texture.
The town is the main centre of its department in the Bas-Sassandra district, and a local hub for fishing, trade and the plantation economy of the southwest. Roads connect it along the coast towards San-Pédro to the east and inland towards the border areas. The coastline here is long, open and sandy, running with few interruptions.
A Tabou map poster is simple and spacious: a clean coastline, a compact street network and roads heading out through the forested country of the southwest. That simplicity suits monochrome printing, where the shore becomes a strong, unbroken edge and the streets sit neatly behind it.
The coast runs past Tabou in a long, clean line, forming the southern edge of any map of the town and a strong horizon for the whole design.
The Cavally River and the Liberian frontier lie a short distance to the west, placing Tabou near the very end of the Ivorian coastline.
A road runs east along the coast towards San-Pédro, linking Tabou to the rest of the southwest and giving the map a long directional line.

Koteā ko Tabou
For people who grew up in Tabou or worked along this stretch of coast, the map recalls the sea, the roads through the forest and the edge of the country. It is a rare printed image of a town that seldom appears on posters.
