Te mapa
Tianfu is a town in the north of Chongqing municipality, in the Beibei area not far from the Jialing River. The land here is folded into long ridges and valleys, and the street map follows them closely: roads run along valley floors, housing climbs the lower slopes, and the settlement spreads in elongated clusters instead of around a single square.
The town is associated with coal mining, which developed here in the early twentieth century and became especially important during the Second World War, when Chongqing served as China's wartime capital and its industries needed fuel. Mining shaped where the town grew and how it was linked by road and rail, and that history remains part of local identity.
A Tianfu map poster reveals a place defined by terrain and industry. Curving roads and scattered blocks trace the valleys, and the surrounding hills leave wide, empty areas on the paper, producing an intricate yet open composition quite different from the dense streets of central Chongqing.
The hills around Tianfu run in long parallel ridges, and the town's roads and buildings follow the valleys between them in long, flowing lines.
Coal mining shaped Tianfu for much of the twentieth century, influencing where the town grew and how it was connected to the rest of the region.
The Jialing River flows through the wider Beibei area nearby, and its broad course is one of the defining water features of this northern district.
