Te mapa
Tobolsk stands at the confluence of the Tobol and Irtysh rivers in western Siberia. On a map, the city is clearly divided in two. The upper town sits on a high bluff, the Troitsky Cape, while the lower town spreads across the floodplain below. The rivers wind through the landscape, with broad bends, side channels and oxbow lakes.
The lower town has an older street pattern, with blocks running between the bluff and the river. The upper town, together with newer districts built later to the north, has a more planned layout with wider avenues. Steep slopes and ravines separate the levels, and they show up as thin green lines between the two grids.
Tobolsk was once the capital of Siberia, and its white-stone kremlin on the bluff is the only one in Siberia. The chemist Dmitri Mendeleev was born here, and the last imperial family was held here in 1917. A Tobolsk map poster shows a city shaped by its rivers and its steep bluff.
The kremlin sits at the edge of the high Troitsky Cape, overlooking the lower town, and marks the point where the city's two levels meet.
Two separate street patterns, one on the heights and one on the floodplain, are divided by steep slopes, which gives the map an unusual layered structure.
The two rivers meet near the city in wide curves, with channels and oxbow lakes that add sweeping natural lines to the composition.

Koteā ko Tobolsk
Tobolsk attracts people interested in Siberian history, and it is home to families with deep roots in the region. A map poster shows the city's unusual geography, which is striking even for those who have never visited.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be changed, perhaps to mark a trip or a birthplace. Choose one of five styles, download 300 DPI files for $9 with no watermark, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
