Un lies in northern Gujarat, on the flat land toward the Little Rann of Kutch. The terrain is almost level for many kilometres. Settlements are compact islands in a landscape of farmland, and rural roads link them in fairly straight lines across the plain.
The old part of town is dense. Narrow lanes twist between closely built houses, as is typical of traditional settlements in the region. Newer construction and roads extend outward from this core. Around the edges, field boundaries and a few ponds or tanks break up the flat ground, and the pattern of agriculture takes over quickly once the town ends.
