Backwater channels
Narrow canals and lagoon arms weave through the settlement, so water forms as much of the map as the roads do, especially toward the lake side.

Te mapa
Vayalār lies in Alappuzha district, in the low coastal strip of Kerala where land and water are hard to separate. On a map it appears as a loose scatter of lanes and houses among canals, ponds and backwater arms linked to the Vembanad lake system, with the Arabian Sea only a short distance to the west.
The name is widely known in Kerala for two reasons. It was one of the sites of the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising of 1946, a turning point in the state's political history, and it was the home of the poet and lyricist Vayalar Ramavarma, whose songs remain part of Malayalam film culture.
A Vayalār map poster captures the watery texture of the place: thin roads following raised ground, channels curving between them and pockets of open paddy. It is less a grid than a pattern of threads, and it looks especially fine in lighter styles.
Narrow canals and lagoon arms weave through the settlement, so water forms as much of the map as the roads do, especially toward the lake side.
The village sits on the long, flat sandbar country between the backwaters and the Arabian Sea, where roads run mostly north to south.
Instead of a centre and suburbs, small lanes branch off main roads to reach houses and fields, producing a fine, branching texture on paper.

Koteā ko Vayalār
For many families in Kerala and abroad, this map is about home: the lanes walked as a child, the canal behind the house, a place tied to the state's political memory. It works well as a gift for someone living far from Alappuzha.
Personalise the title and subtitle, add a meaningful date to the coordinates line, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand bring out the softness of the waterways.
