Te mapa
Vercelli stands on the right bank of the Sesia river in eastern Piedmont, between Turin and Milan. It is often called the rice capital of Europe, and the surrounding plain is laid out in rectangular paddies bordered by canals and farm tracks. In spring the fields are flooded, and the city seems to float on a great sheet of water.
The historic centre keeps a compact, fairly regular street pattern inherited from its Roman and medieval past, and boulevards follow the line of the former walls around it. The Basilica of Sant’Andrea, an early Gothic church with Romanesque elements, is the city’s best-known monument. The cathedral library holds the Vercelli Book, one of the oldest surviving manuscripts of Old English poetry.
A Vercelli map poster draws the ring of the old town, the course of the Sesia and the geometric fields reaching toward the horizon. Few Italian cities are so clearly tied to the landscape around them. In black and white, that relationship becomes a composition of fine lines, dense blocks and wide, structured space.
Paddies, irrigation canals and farm roads surround the city in a regular chequerboard, one of the most distinctive farming patterns in Italy.
Boulevards trace the outline of the former walls and enclose a compact historic core with a dense, orderly network of streets.
The Sesia runs along the eastern side of the city, and its wide gravel bed and braided channels form a soft, irregular edge to the map.

Koteā ko Vercelli
Vercelli appeals to people who know the Po plain well. It also appeals to those who have seen the flooded fields from a train between Turin and Milan and wondered about the city in the middle of them.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle and coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint makes the rice grid look like a technical drawing. The HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
