Te mapa
Vineland is in Cumberland County, southern New Jersey, and covers a surprisingly large area for its population. It was founded in 1861 by Charles K. Landis as a planned agricultural community, and from above the map still shows his design: a long main street, Landis Avenue, crossing a regular grid of roads that divides the land into farm plots and neighbourhoods.
Vineland was established as a temperance town, and it was here that Thomas Welch developed his unfermented grape juice in 1869, the beginning of the Welch's brand. The city later became known for poultry and egg production. Today it mixes a compact downtown with wide residential areas and farmland reaching toward the edge of the Pine Barrens.
A Vineland map poster reveals the clarity of that nineteenth-century plan. Straight roads cross at right angles, fields and houses fill the blocks, and the Maurice River adds a softer line along the western side. It is a geometric, open composition that feels calm and deliberate, well suited to larger formats.
Vineland's main street runs straight through the city's centre, forming the backbone of the original plan and connecting downtown with the surrounding grid.
Roads laid out by the city's founder divide the land into regular rectangles, creating an unusually orderly pattern across both town and farmland.
The river runs along the city's western side, its winding course contrasting with the straight streets and adding an organic edge to the map.
