Te mapa
Vwawa is the capital of Songwe Region in southwestern Tanzania, in the highlands of Mbozi District. The town is modest in size. From above it reads as a small cluster of streets around its administrative centre and market, surrounded by farmland on rolling hills. Roads branch out to villages, and the main highway toward the Zambian border passes close by.
Songwe Region was created in 2016, when it was separated from Mbeya Region, and Vwawa was chosen as its seat. That new role has brought government offices and new construction to what had been a farming town. The surrounding district is well known for its coffee, and it is also home to the Mbozi meteorite, one of the largest iron meteorites ever found.
A Vwawa map poster shows a town in the process of becoming a regional centre. New roads and plots extend from the older core, while a network of rural tracks connects it to the highland farms that sustain it. The result is an open, uncluttered composition, with plenty of space around a clear and growing centre.
Government buildings, the market and the main streets sit together in a compact grid at the centre, the heart of one of Tanzania's newer regional capitals.
The main road between Mbeya and the border town of Tunduma runs close to Vwawa. It is a strong line that links the town to regional trade routes.
Around the town, rural roads wind across hills planted with coffee and food crops, forming a loose, organic network against open space.

People from Mbozi and Songwe, as well as those who worked in the region's coffee sector or government offices, hang this map to remember the town. Its uncluttered layout makes a calm, simple piece for the wall.
