Te mapa
Waingapu is the largest town on Sumba, in East Nusa Tenggara, and the administrative centre of East Sumba. It sits beside a sheltered bay on the northern coast. From above, the harbour and waterfront form one side of the town, and a loose grid of streets climbs gently inland toward the dry, grassy hills that cover much of eastern Sumba.
The town is known for its links to Sumbanese culture, above all the island's hand-woven ikat textiles, which are produced in villages around Waingapu and traded through the town. Sumba is also known for its horses, the Sandalwood breed. The island's savanna landscape looks very different from the greener islands to the west.
A Waingapu map poster combines a clean coastline with an understated street plan. The bay gives the composition a strong curved edge, the port adds small geometric details, and the town fades into open land. It is a map of a place that sits between the sea and a large, quiet island.
The sheltered bay on Sumba's north coast gives the map a clear, sweeping shoreline. Pier structures jut into the water.
Streets run back from the waterfront in a simple grid that loosens toward the edge of town.
Beyond the town, open grassland and hills leave wide empty areas on the poster, which reflect the dry landscape of eastern Sumba.

Koteā ko Waingapu
For travellers who arrived in Sumba through Waingapu, and for Sumbanese people living elsewhere in Indonesia, this map marks the gateway to the island. It is simple and evocative.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand echoes the colour of the island's grasslands.
